Smart Budget Traveler publishes practical itineraries built from trips we completed, the costs we recorded and the decisions that helped us spend less.
First-hand travel
Our trip articles identify the route, group size, dates and recorded costs wherever those details are available. We do not claim that a planned itinerary was completed unless it was actually travelled.
How we report costs
- Per-person and whole-group costs are labelled separately.
- Company-paid, free, gifted or excluded expenses are disclosed when relevant.
- Historical prices are not presented as guaranteed current prices.
- Estimated figures are identified rather than blended into confirmed spending.
- Readers are directed to official providers for current fares, visa rules and admission information.
Corrections and updates
When a factual trip detail is corrected, we update the article and related trip data. Time-sensitive travel information may change after publication, so important decisions should always be confirmed with the relevant official provider.
Images and privacy
We use our own travel photographs, licensed destination photography and supporting editorial visuals. Captions and alternative text should describe the destination accurately. We may remove identifiable bystanders from personal photographs to protect privacy.
Affiliate and referral links
Referral links are added only when they are relevant to the destination or travel product. Eligible links are labelled and use the appropriate sponsored relationship attribute. A commission does not change the price paid by the reader, and commercial eligibility does not determine our reported trip costs.
Downloadable trip-cost data
Our real trip cost dataset summarises headline figures from the published itineraries. Researchers and travel writers may quote a figure with attribution and a link to the relevant itinerary.
