2 Days in Pittsburgh for $298: My Real Budget Itinerary
After a work stay in San Francisco, I flew to Pittsburgh for a personal two-day trip. I stayed in an Airbnb, explored Downtown, the riverfront, museums, Mount Washington, Oakland and the Cultural District, and kept my confirmed core trip cost to $298. I also spent $50 on shopping, taking my actual total to $348.

Getting to Pittsburgh
Before Pittsburgh, I had been staying in San Francisco for work. From San Francisco, I flew to Pittsburgh for $110. I am counting the Pittsburgh trip from that flight onwards rather than including the earlier work stay.
Where I stayed
I stayed in an Airbnb and paid $70 for the Pittsburgh stay. Breakfast and dinner were available at the Airbnb, so I recorded $0 additional spend for those meals.
Day 1 — Point State Park, Downtown, Andy Warhol and Mount Washington
My first day combined central Pittsburgh, the riverfront, art and the Mount Washington viewpoint.
I started at Point State Park, a free riverfront stop at the meeting point of Pittsburgh's rivers. My cost: $0.
I continued through Market Square in Downtown Pittsburgh. My recorded cost: $0.
I walked across the bridge and enjoyed the river and skyline views. My recorded cost: $0.
I went inside and paid $15 at the time.
I paid $20 total for the incline during my trip.
I finished around Grandview Avenue for elevated views over the city. No additional sightseeing cost recorded.
Day 1 lunch: $30. Breakfast and dinner at the Airbnb were $0 for me.
Day 2 — Strip District, History, Oakland and the Cultural District
Day 2 mixed food, Pittsburgh history, university architecture, gardens and the Cultural District.
I visited but did not buy anything. My spend: $0.
I did not pay an admission charge on my visit. My cost: $0. This reflects my own trip experience, not a promise of free admission today.
This was part of my food experience in Pittsburgh. Rather than assigning an unconfirmed individual meal price, I have kept my confirmed lunch spend for the day at $30.
I visited the Cathedral of Learning and recorded $0 sightseeing spend for this stop.
I paid $23 for my visit.
I finished around Pittsburgh's Cultural District without adding another paid attraction. My recorded cost: $0.

How I kept the trip affordable
The biggest savings came from the low Airbnb cost, free breakfast and dinner, several no-cost sightseeing stops and my unusual $0 Uber transport cost. We were a group of 10 people, and I was working for Uber at the time, so the free rides were connected to work rather than a normal visitor benefit.
For readers planning the same itinerary, local transport is therefore the main cost that needs to be added to my $298 figure.
