Singapore for 64 Days: Our ₹28,000-Per-Person Family Stay

Five of us stayed in Singapore from 8 April to 10 June 2012. Free accommodation with our uncle, mostly home-cooked meals and extensive use of MRT and buses kept the entire 64-day trip to approximately ₹1,40,000.

This was our longest of five Singapore visits. We have travelled there in 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2018, so this guide keeps the 2012 spending separate from attractions explored during later trips.

What our 2012 Singapore stay cost

ExpenseFamily of fivePer person

Combined local spending: MRT, buses, food, outings and shoppingApprox. ₹30,000Approx. ₹6,000
Total₹1,40,000₹28,000
Why this total is unusually low

We did not pay for 63 nights of accommodation and ate most meals at home. The ₹30,000 local figure is a combined family estimate rather than a reconstructed category-by-category receipt total.

Our route from Hyderabad

We travelled Hyderabad → Chennai → Singapore and returned Singapore → Chennai → Hyderabad. Tiger Airlines operated the Singapore sector. The complete return journey cost ₹22,000 per person.

How we travelled and ate in Singapore

MRT for longer city journeysThe rail network handled most journeys between central neighbourhoods and major sights.
Public buses for local connectionsBuses helped us complete routes beyond convenient MRT stops.
Mostly home-cooked mealsStaying with our uncle allowed us to eat at home and avoid restaurant spending on most days.
Occasional local foodHawker centres remain a practical way for visitors to sample Singapore without full-service restaurant prices.

We visited Gardens by the Bay in 2015.

A practical five-day route based on our visits

Day 1 · Marina Bay and Merlion Park

Walk the waterfront and explore the city skyline. Add Gardens by the Bay for a modern version of this route.

Day 2 · Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam

Use MRT connections between Singapore’s cultural districts, temples, mosques, shophouses and markets.

Day 3 · Botanic Gardens, Fort Canning and Clarke Quay

Combine green spaces and central history with an evening walk beside the Singapore River.

Day 4 · Sentosa

Choose the cable car or lower-cost public transport, then balance one paid experience with beaches and free walking areas.

Day 5 · Orchard Road and Changi Airport

Allow time for shopping and airport exploration. Jewel Changi is a useful modern addition, but it opened after our latest 2018 visit.
