Sydney in 4 Days: My ₹72,000 Solo Trip from Hyderabad

I travelled from Hyderabad to Sydney via Kuala Lumpur, stayed three nights at Sydney Central YHA and combined the harbour, Blue Mountains and coastal walks without paying for major attractions.

My four-day Sydney itinerary

Day 1 · Circular Quay and Sydney Harbour

After taking the Airport Link train to Central and walking to the YHA, I explored the Opera House exterior, Royal Botanic Gardens and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair. I finished in the lanes of The Rocks before returning to the hostel.

Day 2 · Blue Mountains and the Three Sisters

I used the public train from Central to Katoomba, continued to Echo Point and saw the Three Sisters. Instead of buying a Scenic World ticket, I completed the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and returned to Sydney by train.

Day 3 · Bondi–Coogee walk and Manly ferry

I took a bus to Bondi, completed the free Bondi–Coogee Coastal Walk, then returned to Circular Quay for the public ferry to Manly. The return trip at sunset doubled as an affordable harbour cruise.

Day 4 · Paddy’s Markets and departure

After checking out and storing my bag, I walked to Paddy’s Markets for ₹700 of souvenirs. I collected my luggage and used the airport train for the journey home.

How I kept food costs down

I brought ₹1,220 of commercially packed vegetarian food from India, including ready-to-eat meals and dry snacks, and used the hostel kitchen. I still spent AUD 50, approximately ₹2,500 at the time, on food in Sydney.

Australia biosecurity: rules can change and individual ingredients matter. Declare food when required and check every item against current Australian Border Force guidance. Do not rely on a general brand list as automatic permission.

Visa, transport and travel tools

Visitor visa

I paid ₹7,150 for my offshore Visitor visa in 2018. As of September 2026, Australia’s official immigration site lists the offshore Subclass 600 Tourist stream from AUD 250. Apply through ImmiAccount and follow the personalised document checklist rather than treating any blog checklist as universal.

Opal and contactless travel

I used an Opal card for trains, buses and ferries. Current visitors can also use eligible contactless cards and digital wallets across Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Airport station access fees sit outside normal fare caps, so include them when estimating the airport journey.

SIM, money and security

I used a Vodafone prepaid SIM and a one-month VPN plan. For a future trip, compare current prepaid or eSIM offers before departure. A no-foreign-transaction-fee card can be simpler than a traditional forex card, but always check your own bank’s exchange rate and fees.
