4 Days in Coorg for ₹12,800 Per Person: Our Real Budget Trip from Hyderabad
Four of us travelled from Hyderabad to Mysore by 2nd AC train, hired a car for the Coorg round trip, stayed three nights in an Airbnb homestay and covered Madikeri, Abbey Falls, Mandalpatti, Talakaveri, a coffee estate, Dubare and Namdroling Monastery.

Currency note: ₹12,800 was about £99 using the exchange rate checked in September 2026. The rupee amounts are the important trip figures; exchange rates move.
Coorg (Kodagu) worked well for us as a four-person trip because several of the biggest expenses — the car, homestay, meals and parking — were shared. The journey was also part of the experience: overnight-style rail comfort in 2nd AC from Hyderabad to Mysore, then a road trip into the Western Ghats.

How to replicate this trip
Keep the same cost structure even if today's prices are different: book rail early, split a car between several travellers, use a homestay that can also provide meals, and group nearby attractions into the same day.
We paid ₹2,800 each way per person through IRCTC.
Check IRCTC trains →Our ₹15,000 three-night Airbnb cost became ₹3,750 each because four of us shared it.
Browse Kodagu stays on Airbnb →Our Mysore–Coorg round-trip car was ₹6,000 total. We recorded the total quote, not a separate sightseeing-rate breakdown.

We travelled by train from Hyderabad to Mysore (Mysuru), then used a private car for the Coorg round trip. After Day 4 we returned to Mysore and took the train back to Hyderabad.
Madikeri Fort, Omkareshwara Temple and Raja's Seat sunset
We started with three Madikeri sights, keeping the first day compact rather than driving long distances immediately after arriving in Coorg.

We finished at Raja's Seat for sunset, which gave the day a natural endpoint.

Abbey Falls and Mandalpatti Peak
Day 2 was the scenic hill-and-waterfall day. We visited Abbey Falls and then Mandalpatti Peak.

We do not have a separate historical line item for any Mandalpatti jeep or attraction charge, so we have not invented one in the budget table.
Talakaveri and a Coorg coffee estate tour
Day 3 combined Talakaveri with one of the experiences most closely associated with Coorg: a coffee estate tour.

The coffee-estate visit is included in our actual itinerary, but we no longer have a reliable separate tour price, so it stays inside the rounded final budget rather than being given a made-up fee.
Dubare Elephant Camp and Namdroling Monastery
On the last day we visited Dubare Elephant Camp and then Namdroling Monastery (often called the Golden Temple) before heading back toward Mysore for the return train journey.

Why the homestay meals helped our budget
Instead of planning restaurant meals throughout the trip, we paid the homestay an additional ₹4,000 for food for all four people. That worked out to just ₹1,000 per person across the trip.
What kept our Coorg trip affordable
The biggest savings came from travelling as a group of four. The car, Airbnb, homestay meals and parking all became much cheaper per person once shared. We also used one homestay for all three nights instead of moving accommodation every day.
