3 Days in Matheran for ₹6,000 Per Person: Our Real Budget Trip from Hyderabad
Twelve of us travelled from Hyderabad to Karjat by 3rd AC train, trekked up to Matheran, shared two rooms for two nights, ate all three daily meals at our stay and spent three days walking between lakes, viewpoints, Garbett Plateau, the market and the toy train.

Currency note: ₹6,000 was about £46 using the exchange rate checked in September 2026. The rupee amounts are the important trip figures; exchange rates move.
Matheran was especially good for a group trip because once we reached the hill station, most of our sightseeing was on foot. Our biggest fixed costs were the Hyderabad–Karjat trains, the two-room stay and food.

How to replicate this trip
The formula was simple: book rail in advance, travel with a group, choose a stay that can feed everyone, and plan for a walking-heavy hill-station itinerary.
We booked two rooms through Agoda for twelve people and kept the per-person stay cost low.
Browse Matheran stays on Agoda →We trekked from Karjat to Matheran and then explored the hill station largely on foot.

Charlotte Lake, Echo Point, Louisa Point and Sunset Point
Our first day was a classic Matheran walking day. We started around Charlotte Lake, moved on to Echo Point and Louisa Point, then finished at Sunset Point.

We did not keep separate historical entry-fee records for these viewpoints, so no invented attraction charges are included in the budget.
Panorama Point, Garbett Plateau and local market shopping
Day 2 was our bigger landscape day. We covered Panorama Point and Garbett Plateau, then spent time in the local market. We recorded about ₹500 per person for shopping.

One Tree Hill, heritage walk and the Matheran toy train
Our final day combined One Tree Hill, a heritage walk and the toy train. The toy-train ride cost us ₹60 per person. After coming down, our group used three cars at ₹600 each to reach the station for the return journey.

₹300 per day covered breakfast, lunch and dinner
Our stay provided all three meals for ₹300 per person per day. Over three days, food came to ₹900 per person. On the departure day, they also packed our dinner, which made the return journey easier and helped us avoid an extra restaurant stop.
What kept our Matheran trip affordable
Group size made the biggest difference. Twelve people shared the accommodation and return transfer costs, while the stay's meal package kept food predictable. The hill station itself was also walking-heavy, so we did not need daily local car costs inside Matheran.
